Sarah Christian

My passion for design and all things visual began in childhood. I would lie on the floor, look up at the ceiling and imagine what I would do with the blank canvas. Childhood play involved creating spaces and designing sets for neighborhood plays. The first girl scout badge I pursued was Photography. My father, impressed with the composition of my photos, bought me a SLR camera with lenses from Sears Roebuck.

After college, I spent twelve years in the corporate world in Florida before gaining the courage to pursue a more fitting career. My husband and I moved to Colorado where I studied Landscape Architecture and ultimately started my own design business, Urban Gardens. This career path gave me the opportunity to explore form, line, color and texture. I learned to integrate these elements into a unified composition that was aesthetically pleasing and congruent with the surrounding home and landscape.

I have now slowed down my practice a bit which has allowed more time to travel and hone my lifelong love of photography. I carefully arrange the same elements of design used in my profession to capture balanced and compelling photographic compositions. I draw inspiration from nature, landscapes and both natural and man-made spaces that evoke a unique sense of place.

Photography gives me the ability to create images through a personal lens and perspective. It challenges me to find beauty in the mundane and to capture it in a unique way with endless opportunities for self-expression.
