Sarah Christian
My passion for design and all things visual began in childhood. I used to lie on the floor, look up at the ceiling and imagine what I would do with the blank canvas. Childhood play involved creating spaces and designing sets for childhood plays. The first girl scout badge I pursued was Photography. My father, impressed with my photos, bought me a SLR camera with lenses from Sears Roebuck.
I spent twelve years in corporate Human Resources in Florida before gaining the courage to pursue something more fitting, a Masters degree in Landscape Architecture which brought me to Denver in 1993. This training taught me to explore form, line, color and texture in my designs. I learned to integrate these elements into a unified composition that was congruent with the surrounding home and landscape. Later, I started my own Landscape Architectural Design business, Urban Gardens.
During the landscaping off-season, I took up mosaics to provide an outlet for my creativity during the long Colorado winters. I enjoyed taking things that were broken and assembling them into different patterns to give them new purpose. I liked working with bold colors, recycled materials and different textures to create abstract and whimsical pieces. Since retiring, I have been freed up to explore multimedia art and hone my lifelong love for photography and travel. In photography, I am passionate about exploring the elements of form, color, light, shadow and time and draw inspiration from landscapes and nature.
